Day 5

My last day at Anh Linh marked the end of the very first full year of establishing relations with Anh Linh. Coincidentally, the day also marked principal Cam Thuy's 47th birthday -- a pleasant surprise to me and the students who gathered to buy a cake for her birthday. 

For my last English class, students created a birthday card for Thuy, with handwritten messages in English and Vietnamese. The card was presented with a few gifts the dormitory girls prepared and a log cake I bought the day before to Thuy before lunch. 

Lunch on the last day was celebrated with eight sisters of the school. On the menu was homemade Vietnamese traditional spring rolls, beef stew, mangoes and coconuts. Part of the cake was shared with the students, while my log cake was saved for the next day's Christmas Eve celebration.

Prior to my departure, I thanked the teachers and sisters for an enjoyable stay, and bought sixty heart-shaped keychains to sell as Valentines Day grams next February.
