1. Setup 12 new laptops, courtesy of VinaCapital, to replace 12 existing old desktops
2. Successfully taught Ms. Thuy how to use her new laptop computer
3. One crazy afternoon elementary English class (more on that below...)
The Question:
What is one sentence that could summarize today's activities at Anh Linh?
The Answer:
"Little rebels"
So, what really happened to this afternoon's English class?
After lunch, some elementary kids stayed back to what we assumed, voluntarily take initiative to learn more English with us. What we assumed was clearly not what the kids assumed -- English class turned into recess, and the once shy kids that sat through 1.5 hours in the morning turned into, as one member described it "little rebels."
Turns out that the kids came back to play with us, not learn! Fortunately, our team leaders took charge and brought the kids to recess while Ms. Thuy abruptly apologized for all the raucous with an early dismissal for the elementary kids.
Meanwhile, one block away from the elementary building, three other members lead a wonderfully planned and executed intermediate English class with 6th, 7th, and 8th graders throughout the afternoon. While some of us chased after fighting first grade kids, others worked hard ensure the Anh Linh kids were pronouncing their ABC's correctly.
The Verdict:
A high, a low, and back to a high. Despite the trouble with the elementary kids in the afternoon, we came away from the experience with a lot more appreciation for our teachers.
