For the next three days, this blog will be following and showcasing the work of Singapore American School's Outreach Vietnam service club, on their very first annual service trip to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam to work with the Anh Linh Free School.
All 17 participants on the service trip arrived safe and well into Ho Chi Minh City early this afternoon to clear skies, and very warm weather. After a short ride over to our hotel, Duxton Hotel Saigon (District 1), all participants boarded a bus to Anh Linh, a 20 minute ride away from the city center.
Upon arrival, we were greeted by Sister Agnes Le Thi Cam Thuy, principal and director of Anh Linh Free School -- a truly instrumental symbol of Anh Linh's growth and capacity in doing what it does for children for the last 20 years. The group toured both the elementary and middle schools before spending a good half hour meeting the "dormitory girls" and other Saturday weekend class kids.
Dinner was at the Ashima restaurant, a 10 minute walk from the hotel, specializing in mushroom hot pot Vietnamese-style cuisine. At first, many participants were skeptical about the idea of a mushroom-themed dinner, but the seven course meal proved all of us wrong.
Sunday in brief:
1. Welcome by Ms. Thuy
2. Tour of Anh Linh
3. A nice dinner at Ashima restaurant
