One Month into the School Year

Outreach Vietnam started the year with a bang. The club's popularity has led it to become one of the largest service clubs on campus, with over 35 members meeting once a week to do all sorts of activities.

In September, Outreach Vietnam held a bake sale and pizza sale on the same day -- a first for the club. The fundraiser raised $300 in one day, an excellent result given that the pizza sold out within five minutes and members were forced to find alternative ways to satisfy demand (which then resulted in selling Coke by the cup).

Several new initiatives were launched by the club:
1. We no longer take attendance. Service hours are now awarded based on participation and effort, rather than attendance.
2. Fundraisers are held bi-monthly with fixed dates.
3. Each member is encouraged to undertake a "Personal Service Project" that would last throughout the whole year. Successful project completion will result in a 50 hour distinguished service award certificate and medal.
4. Partnership with another service club to enhance the number of service opportunities for members -- dealing with the physically and mentally disabled in a local care home across the street from the school.
5. And finally, drafting the 2012 service trip itinerary to include one more day of service.

With so many new members, Outreach Vietnam's future looks bright. Stay tuned for the announcement of our website re-launch and newsletter launch!
