Being Thankful at Thanksgiving

Living in Singapore is a privilege I often take for granted. Like most of the 30+ members of Outreach Vietnam, I am often baffled at the amount of poverty that exists around us. South East Asia lies at the crossroads of the developed and developing world, and it is important to understand that life in the little red dot is very different for millions of children in Vietnam and elsewhere.

As such, Outreach Vietnam members embarked on a two-week holiday drive this week to collect clothing, books, shoes, toys, and other donation items for the Anh Linh Free School. The two-week holiday drive will form one part of the eventual Christmas donation that club members will pack and ship to Vietnam in December. The response was overwhelming -- boxes placed around the school were already full in just three days. And for the Anh Linh kids, Christmas has indeed come early.

What is Outreach Vietnam thankful for?
A sample of our members yielded these results:
1. An excellent leadership team
2. A great group of kids to work with at Anh Linh
3. Our highly successful fundraisers
4. Individualism -- members who can advocate their own service projects
5. Being able to work first-hand with Anh Linh kids

Outreach Vietnam members will continue to remain busy until the end of the year. A three-club jog-a-thon is in place as our next big event. But most importantly, we are thankful for what we have and our opportunity to work with the Anh Linh Free School.
