(An evening blackout last night prevented the posting of the day one post)
With nearly 300 people attending Anh Linh now, the number of
children under the child sponsorship program has grown immensely ever
since Bridges to Learning pioneered the first sponsorships to support
the education of Vietnam's street children. This morning, Anh Linh kids
had the privilege of having a group of local dentists visit to provide
free dental checkups about 50 children. Regular medical checkups
provided at no cost by volunteer groups ensure that the health of Anh
Linh's kids are always in tip-top shape.
The most important activity of the day, however, was the
opportunity to work with a college student volunteer to help translate
the stories of many kids into English for our child sponsorship program.
Since inception, no system was ever created to easily organize and
update the sponsorship profiles of every sponsored child. From a list of
96 sponsored children, 26 sponsors had changes in the names of their
sponsored children -- when students quite regularly dropped out of
school to do work and other familial problems. With four volunteers to
work with, profiles were established for about half of the currently
sponsored children. Although progress was slow, today marked the first
step towards a permanant sponsor organization system.
Over the next three days, our goal is to complete putting together
profiles of all 96 children who are being sponsored, as well as those
who need to be sponsored. For more information, visit the
Sponsor-A-Child page located beneath the title image above.
