Based in Singapore, over 60 student members from
around the world actively work to develop meaningful relationships with welfare
organizations and educational institutions that allow the poorest and most
disadvantaged children to attend school in Vietnam. Welfare organizations, like
the Green Bamboo Shelter, target vulnerable street children who do not attend
school due to family problems, substance abuse, and imprisonment, among others.
By working together with local, public schools, like the Anh Linh Free School,
children are offered a path to enter the schools system, regardless of age or
educational background, with the goal of earning a high school diploma.
Last year, Outreach Vietnam raised over $10,000
and launched a child sponsorship program that supports all educational and
living needs of over 100 children. This year, Outreach Vietnam expects to
continue its rapid growth with a participant-record annual service trip and the
expansion of partnerships and support programs for students wishing to pursue
their post-secondary education at local universities.

HISTORY
In 2010, Michael Hsun, a Singapore American
School high school sophomore, founded Outreach Vietnam. Realizing the
opportunity to establish an educational-based service program for a free,
public local school in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, Michael set out to create an
entirely student-founded and run service organization dedicated towards poverty
elimination through education in Vietnam. After spending his summer teaching
English and computer lessons to kids attending the Anh Linh Free School,
Michael returned to Singapore and established Outreach Vietnam. Today, Outreach
Vietnam is the largest, student-founded and student-run service organization at
the Singapore American School.
