Service Trips

Service trips play an integral role in Outreach Vietnam's efforts to improve access to education for hundreds of street children. Outreach Vietnam is committed to provide every individual the opportunity to travel to Vietnam on our annual service trip. No limit is placed on the number of volunteers that can go on our service trips.

Our signature annual service trip, which occurs every March, offers student volunteers of the Singapore American School an unparalleled opportunity to design their own service projects for implementation over the course of five days. Major volunteer work is done during this period, and student volunteers are placed into groups that rotate between teaching, family visitation, and other volunteering assignments for the duration of the trip.

3rd Annual Spring Service Trip
March 23 to 27, 2013

Outreach Vietnam's 3rd Annual Service Trip was a tremendous success. The number of volunteers on the trip was the organization's biggest yet and for the first time, included middle school student volunteers.

Volunteers at Anh Linh Free School presented and implemented a much improved and revised English course, building upon efforts to create a short, intensive English language course that was initiated in the previous year. At the Green Bamboo Shelter, volunteers cleaned and repainted the lobby and roof of the four-story facility, marking the completion of a two-year rehabilitation project.

4th Annual Service Trip
March 22 to 26, 2014

Trip details will be announced in October 2013.

Outreach Vietnam's annual service trips focus on long-term development for both the Anh Linh Free School and Green Bamboo Shelter for Boys. Trip activities vary according to the number of participants each year; however, it is over this trip that all proceeds raised by Outreach Vietnam throughout the school year are awarded to Anh Linh Free School in the form of child sponsorships and an annual 10 million VND cash grant.

At the Green Bamboo Shelter, trip participants will implement a short-term English language curriculum catered to teach basic English language skills to boys over their duration of stay. At the Anh Linh Free School, trip participants will repaint the foyer and dormitory rooms of the school, as well as continue the ongoing English and computer curriculum developments.

Outreach Vietnam continues to look for opportunities that will drive sustainable growth. We are in for the long-term. And we hope you are, too.

Proposed: Singapore American School High School Interim Trip

This trip strikes a balance between service and the opportunity to explore the fascinating culture, history, and sites of Vietnam. A different activity will be planned for every afternoon of the trip. Students will crawl through the Vietnam War era Cu Chi tunnels, visit the War Remnants Museum, and bustling Ben Thanh Market. At the end of the trip, students will enjoy a huge group dinner with kids from the Anh Linh Free School and Green Bamboo Shelter. From teaching to painting to touring, this trip provides the best of a service experience unlike any other.

At the Green Bamboo Shelter, students will set-up a computer lab and library, repaint the shelter, and work with the boys to teach English and life skills. At the Anh Linh Free School, students will be designing lesson plans and activities to implement with the local teachers and students.
